Maddie and Mark’s Oklahoma Wedding in Colcord, OK
Groom’s late father built a ranch, so they honor him by having the wedding there | Oklahoma Wedding
As a father, I filter the weddings I shoot and edit through a different lens. There is just something special about being a dad. There is a responsibility there to help raise your kids, but also provide for your family. It is a hard job, but the most honorable I could imagine having.
Maddie and Mark came to me about filming their wedding at Mark’s family ranch. They had this incredible story where they knew each other when they were kids, and actually had been on the ranch together there some 20 years ago. Fast forward to 2019, and they are getting married. This wedding was extra special, because Mark’s father and mother had purchased this land, and some of Mark’s fondest memories of his father are here. Mark’s father passed away when he was young, but they still had the ranch to remind them of him. A suspension bridge that he built on the property is the longest suspension bridge in Oklahoma. There is a memorial to dad right before you walk across it.
Honestly, you could feel dad’s presence on the ranch all day as we were there shooting. What an honorable man, leaving something so beautiful to his family. I couldn’t help but think about my little girls, and how I hope to leave a legacy to them, as well. So humbled and honored to be part of this wedding day.
Speaking of this wedding day, Maddie and Mark’s wedding was one for the highlight reel for sure. Not only was it absolutely gorgeous, the wedding day was filled with family and friends, and was just so refreshing. A light rain covered the property all day, and it honestly wasn’t a bother at all. Sure, our shoes all got wet, but it almost felt like a refreshing new start for Mark and Maddie’s family together. It felt majestic, and surreal, to be honest. They spent the day holding each other, laughing, and enjoying their families as they became one.
From the rehearsal dinner, to the grand exit, they made me feel like family! Sometimes a wedding will change you. This one did for me, for sure. A huge thank you to the families of the bride and groom for allowing me to peek into their lives. Hopefully I did it justice. Hopefully.
Thank you for trusting in me,
John
